Live a happier life with your dog
My training philosophy is based on trust and communication between you and your dog. Simple solutions that are scientifically proven to improve both your dog's behaviour and their long-term welfare. My aim is to help you be your dog's advocate and build a better relationship with them through force-free training.

MEET YOUR TRAINER
Hi, I’m Layla, a passionate force-free dog trainer dedicated to helping dogs and their owners build strong, positive relationships. My journey in the world of dog training began in 2019 at Petbarn Lismore, where I had the opportunity to teach puppy school, beginner, and intermediate classes. During my time there, I quickly developed a deep understanding of the unique needs of both dogs and their owners, using positive reinforcement techniques to ensure learning is both fun and effective. It was clear to me that building trust and mutual respect with dogs is the foundation of successful training, and I’ve carried that philosophy into every training session since.

In 2021, I expanded my passion for animal care by opening Northern Rivers Dog Walking, a service that aimed to fill the gap in our region for reliable and compassionate pet care. I spent several years connecting with pet owners and providing the care their dogs needed, and in late 2024, I decided to sell the business to focus more on my training career. Alongside my practical experience, I’ve always been committed to furthering my education in animal behaviour, which is why I’m currently studying with the Delta Institute and am just about to complete my Certificate IV in Animal Behaviour and Training.

My background also includes a Bachelor of Wildlife Science and a Certificate IV in Captive Animals, both of which have greatly enhanced my understanding of animal behaviour in a variety of contexts. These qualifications provided me the opportunity to work closely with a variety of species, which has given me a broader perspective on how animals learn and communicate. I’m thrilled to be able to combine my education and experience to help dogs of all shapes, sizes, and personalities thrive in a force-free, positive environment.

My family includes Suki, a Staffy/Rotti/Sharpei pup from Animal Rights & Rescue Group, who keeps me on my toes with her sweet and playful nature. In early 2024, I lost my beautiful girl Tess, a Cattle Dog x JRT x "goodest girl." She was a constant companion and source of joy, and I will forever cherish the time we had together.
